198 - Sailors Grave Part 1

Davydd is back from holidays and shares some of the highlights of his travels including visits to Woolshed Brewing, the Prairie Hotel in Parachilna and the William Creek Hotel.

In this episode we are off to the South Coast of New South Wales to to meet Seeker Brewing.

Before we get to Seeker we meet Nigel from the South Coast Ale Trail who describes the whole journey we could go on visiting the 11 breweries that make up the Ale Trail. Then we are off to meet Ben and Jeff from Seeker! We learn about this amazing family of brewers and drummers and the journey they've been on to create their award winning beers.

We encounter two experimental hops from Yakima Chief and the process for deciding which hops go best with which styles.

Davydd ventures back to the town of his birth to experience all the fun of one  of regional Victoria's premier beer festivals.

We chat with Bendigo Beer's Chris Adkins about the life of a festival organiser on the day, which beers at the festival he's been enjoying and what the group has lined up in coming months.

Davydd finally meets Dayvid from Sailors Grave and we get a little preview of their lemon meringue sour and much much more.

And we finish off with a new friend from a favourite brewery as Sam from King River shares the wet-hopped Victoria Secret with us and shares all the latest goings-on from the high country.

After a gap of over 120 episodes Andrew from Chur joins Warren and Davydd from a car somewhere in New Zealand to discuss quite a lot of news!

We hear all about Matt's trips to Europe which inspired him to return to Melbourne and start a brewery which has become legendary.

As we taste some amazing versions of his beers that have been aged in the Beer Deluxe Coolroom we get to speak about the techniques behind them and the way that they've changed since he last tasted them.

Then we kick off our discussion with James Breheny who has a truly amazing story to tell. His family have been brewing in Australia since 1864 and have worked at pretty much every major brewery you could name.

We hear how the family brewing bible made its way into his hands and how he has sought to reclaim the family brewing heritage while using his skills as a marketer to revive interest in recipes that are over 100 years old.
